Noting that unnecessary violence would do no good, you decide to talk instead. You're firm, but not aggressive.\n\nAlthough they don't appear to want to talk at first, eventually they cave. They admit they've been on edge ever since their sister died.\n\nYou tell them you're sorry, and ask what happened.\n\nHe tells you it happened when the magic you ripped from the earth first fought back. It tore through her body, killing her instantly.\n\nYou realize that you know exactly who he's talking about. You stop in your tracks when you're far enough away to be safe. You shout out to it, asking what it wants.\n\nIt responds in a low growl, voice so garbled you cannot understand it.\n\nYou ask it what it is, what it's doing here.\n\nThe same garbled response.\n\nIt takes a step closer, and you notice in horror that it appears to be fading, melting into smoke. Soon, it is completely gone. You look around for a sign of it, but there's nothing there. You begin to think you imagined it.\n\nYou also realize something else: you cannot stay in this world of fog and void. It is time for the Aurus to return.\n\nBut how? And then, you collapse.\n\nYou look upon your people, and notice they're all shadows of their former selves. Some literally. Their physical forms are warped and faded. You feel yourself losing everything that makes you yourself.\n\n[[==>|GNo]]

The god nods his head.\n\n"That seems to me like someone worth helping, but I'm afraid I cannot follow where he is. It is not my realm."\n\nYou hang your head in disappointment.\n\n"But, I can give you my word that as soon as he returns to this world, I will do my best to help him."\n\nYou nod and tell him that would be perfect.\n\n"Excellent," he says. With a wave of his paw, a small, glowing yellow orb appears in front of you. "Take this as a symbol of my promise."\n\nYou ask what it is.\n\n"A wisp of magic energy. There was a time when these were plentiful, and I hope one day they will be again."\n\nYou agree.\n\nAs you leave the mountain, your heart has lightened knowing your brother will be taken care of whenever he returns.

You rush over to where you hear the shouting, stopping in your tracks when you see the sight.\n\nThere is a creature here, a creature so big it towers over the tallest Aurus. In a flash of light, he is suddenly much smaller, wearing a baggy green cloak. "I'll point the Alkarnabi in the right direction, give them everything they need. A Tale of Two Brothers

The thought makes them smile, and they sit up slowly. You sit next to them. The two of you talk about the first thing you'll do when you get back.\n\nAfter a while, they thank you and get to their feet. You've given them hope.\n\nYou sit for a while on your own, wondering if your brother is okay, back in the dying world. You resolve to return soon, and to bring your people back with you.

No.\n\nYou made a promise to your brother, and you intend to keep it.\n\nYou struggle to your feet. It's time to do your job.\n\nYou notice another Aurus lying on the ground, too weak to even lift their head. They stare up at you with sad, broken eyes. You find that other animals have survived out here. They're not the large game you're used to hunting, but beggars can't be choosers. You also find that some of the resilient plants that still grow fill your belly enough to keep your energy up.\n\nThose plants can only mean one thing: water! You find that digging down into the ground deep enough will turn up water. It's not much, but it quenches your thirst just fine.\n\nYou follow the small prey and note the way they've survived. If you cannot find shelter, make it. Shallow tunnels keep the harsh sun off of your fur in the day, and you hunt and roam at night. You note that these tunnels don't hold for long. Perhaps it would be better to start a more nomadic lifestyle.\n\n[[==>|MNext]]

The Aurus tells you of a monster that's been attacking other Aurus. This alarms you. What monster could be large and powerful enough to attack your people?\n\nDespite your mate's hesitation, you agree to help.\n\nThe Aurus leads you to a hunting party, where other Aurus have gathered to take down this strange creature.\n\nYou look for a scent, but find none. You look for pawprints, but find none. You begin to wonder if this thing is even real, when you hear a shout.\n\n[[==>|MShout]]

"Oh, it was many, many years ago. I want to say it was several decades, around eighty years. I took on apprentice to help your kind return to this world! We found an egg and everything!"\n\nAn egg?\n\n"Yes, an egg! Apparently, if your kind fades away in the void dimension, they reappear in this one, but they leave most of themselves behind. They have little to no memories of their past, and they come back as neat little eggs. We found one of these eggs, a nice pale, golden one, and I gave it to my apprentice to take care of."\n\nYou ask what went so wrong.\n\n"Well, he did take the egg, but he knew how powerful it was. He ran off with it and tried to sell it! Can you believe that? I tracked him down and stopped him, but by the time I found him, he'd already dumped the egg somewhere."\n\nAnd the apprentice?\n\n"I punished him, of course."\n\n[[==>|GPunish]]

The thing may be huge, but it is also fast. Its paws make a sound like thunder as it runs. You barely manage to dodge out of the way as it charges past you.\n\nSomething shines under your chin, and you remember the wisp the old god gave you- the very same one you keep in a glass orb around your neck. It is shining very brightly and shaking in the glass, as if straining to escape. You get a strange idea and rip the necklace off, tossing the glass orb at the ground.\n\n[[==>|MWispCreature]]

The Nabi opened the door, blinking up in surprise at who he saw.\n\n"Wisp?" he asked, staring up at the Aurus. "Come in, how can I help you?"\n\n"Thank you," Wisp said, walking through the door, ducking his head to avoid his horns hitting the door frame. "You have a lovely home, Kabber."\n\n"O-oh, thank you. Is everything okay?"\n\n"Yes, I just wanted to have a chat with you." Wisp was silent for a moment, thinking how best to word his query. "Do you know much about your ancestors?"\n\n"Like a family tree? I know a bit. Why?"\n\n"Well, I think I know a bit about your distant past."\n\n"Oh yeah?"\n\n"Yes, it all started with two brothers, Wisp and Kiro, at the end of the world..."\n\nTHE END

Despite your distrust, you feel terrible. She had done nothing but be in the wrong place at the wrong time. You send your fellow Aurus out to find everything you need. They scour everywhere, but come back empty-handed. Frustrated, you send them out again, but this time you accompany them.\n\nAt first you think they're right- it's a lost cause- but slowly, you realize something. You're still foraging as you have been your entire life, but things are different now. You change your mentality, and look carefully at your surroundings.\n\n[[==>|MLook]]

The closer you get, the more the strange feeling of dread in your stomach churns. There's something odd about this Aurus...\n\n[img[2]]\n\nBefore you can react, the creature charges at you.\n\nYou think you should run, but it's moving so fast you're afraid it'll catch you.\n\nYou think you should hide, but in the void, there's nowhere to hide.\n\nYou think you should stand your ground, but the creature's so much larger than you, you fear you won't last long.\n\n[[==>|GRunHideDefend]]

You remember a mountain that was important to the Aurus, had some sort of historical significance you never paid attention to. It's time to pay it a visit.\n\nFirst, you find a valley. There's a winding river crossing it, and you resolve to come back later and show the other Aurus. With a nice source of water like that, it would make a great place to live.\n\nThen, you cross a desert. It is vast and windy. The golden sand feels nice under your toes, and the sky as the sun sets is beautiful.\n\nFinally, you see the mountain- a single peak rising above the desert. You see now why this mountain had so much significance. Its imposing height fills you with awe.\n\n[[==>|MClimb]]

You join them around the fire, and one begins an old tale. This tale catches your interest, and you listen in.\n\n"There were once ancient gods who roamed this world before us, imbuing it with magic- the very magic we ourselves now have. When they created the Aurusalkar, they saw their work was done, and retired. There was one, however, that stayed behind, one who loved these new creations so much that he wished to stay behind and help them in their greatest time of need.\n\n"They say he's still out there, watching and waiting for someone to find him and ask of him a favor.
